Hey there, Jamie! First of all, tell us a little bit about yourself. What are some of your interests outside of blogging?
Hello everyone! Outside of my reading world, I love traveling whenever and wherever. Just put me on a plane and I’m happy! My family is in California, so I try and get there as often as possible. I also love playing and watching sports, and I’m a huge fan of food. I don’t get to cook or bake as often as I’d like, but any chance to eat delicious goodness? Count me in!
How did you discover the blogging world and what made you decide to start a blog of your own?
I was blogging (though not nearly as often) when I did wedding photography. As soon as I phased out of weddings, I realized I wanted to keep writing and since I have always loved books I decided I’d start a book blog. I had no idea how awesome the community was though! Twitter was super helpful in discovering fellow book bloggers and the book blogging programs out there. Little by little as my blog grew, I joined more programs and met more awesome friends!
I hate it when people ask me what my favorite book is–such an impossible question! So give us your top five…or ten.
Haha! Alright, I’ll try and keep this list manageable J. Some all time favorites are Dracula by Bram Stoker, Mark of the Lion Series by Francine Rivers, Fire by Night by Lynn Austin, Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling and of course Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis and Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. Oh and to represent the nonfiction world, Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand and Same Kind of Different As Me by Denver Moore and Ron Hall.
What are some of the best books you’ve reviewed in the last year?
I think every year produces more and more incredible reads. I have to limit myself with requests! Some of my favorites reviewed from last year were Price of Privilege by Jessica Dotta (that whole series!!), Mist of Midnight by Sandra Byrd, The Wood’s Edge by Lori Benton, Lady Maybe by Julie Klassen, The Brontë Plot by Katherine Reay. Kay, I’ll stop.
Okay, now to the most important question of the interview: Which Lord of the Rings character is your favorite?
Yes! I love this question! There are so many amazing characters in the series, but I have to go with Samwise Gamgee. He’s an incredible friend, selfless, brave, courageous and Frodo wouldn’t have been able to complete his mission without Sam. A true and loyal friend.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
I think I would love to fly. Then I could really see the world!
Name two famous people, living or dead, you would most like to meet and why.
First up – Abraham Lincoln. He’s my favorite President and he changed America and ended slavery, while giving his life for the cause. Second is a tie (I can’t choose!!) between Tolkien and Lewis. Although, I probably wouldn’t be able to get any words out – ha!
If you had to choose three books you think everyone should read, what would they be and why?
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis because he discusses faith in a way that is still so relevant today and whether you agree or not, it makes you think.
Same Kind of Different as Me because it’s a powerful story and it’s such a reminder that each of us are carrying our own stories and when we’re willing to open our hearts and lives to those so different from us, amazing and life changing things can happen.
The Giver by Lois Lowry because it’s a favorite and I love how she brings about the beauty of life and what makes our hearts alive in this world.
Lightening round! Name your favorite…
Song: Right now is definitely Adele’s entire new album, but I like “Water Under the Bridge” and “River Lea.” Her voice is incredible.
Movie: Oh goodness, so many, but Remember the Titans I could watch all day!
TV show: Definitely The Walking Dead! Although, I understand it’s not for everyone.
Comfort food: I’m pretty powerless against a really good chocolate chip cookie. The concept of “I’ll just have one” simply doesn’t exist with those.
Celebrity crush: You know, a British accent is hard to resist! Tom Hiddleston makes me laugh, so I’m definitely a fan.
Thank you so much for having me! This was so much fun J.
