Mailbox Monday was created by Marcia of The Printed Page and hosted this month by Leah at Amused by Books. A Similar meme, In My Mailbox, is hosted by The Story Siren.

I enjoyed Animal, Vegetable, Miracle even if the things Kingsolver and her family did seemed totally out of the realm of possibility for me. Her writing is really beautiful.
I love her writing too!
The Pursuit of God… that’s deep stuff.
My dad has all these Tozer books in our library and I haven’t got the courage to read one yet. The theology exposition is pretty good, but it sometimes gets too complicated for me. Gotta try reading a Tozer book one of these days.
The Baker’s Wife is on my TBR list. I had to choose between reviewing it and a nonfiction book. I picked the nonfiction book since I want to balance my fiction-nonfiction reading fare, but The Baker’s Wife sounds like a good mystery read. Looking forward to reading your review of it!
Definitely. I had the opportunity to review a new collection of Tozer’s writings, but I passed it up because I knew it would take me FOREVER to get through it! This is a really short book, but I’m still going to take it slow.
Oh, I hate it when I have to choose between a fiction and nonfiction. I actually chose a fiction this time because I’ve been so busy and it will be quicker to read.
Great books
Have a great week,

PS – Come and check out my IMM if you get a chance!
Likewise, Rachel!
Hi Kate,
I’m really enjoying your video blogs! It’s nice to see the books as you talk about them.
The Baker’s Wife sounds really good, its on my TBR list. The Pursuit of God is one of my favorite books! I hope you and your church group are blessed by it.
Glad you’re enjoying the vlogs, Cathy!
Dark History sounds good to me, enjoy your reads.

Thanks, Mary Ann!
The Baker’s Wife sounds like a very good mystery. Loved the comment about your murderous ancestors. We had a friend working on our family tree that found a murderous distant relative. Not a good feeling but we can chuckle about it now.
I was watching a movie a couple of weeks ago and the character of one of my ancestors was in it. He was having an affair, getting a divorce, and oppressing poor people. I thought, if I were watching this with friends there’s no way I would admit to being related to this guy! But I got a good laugh out of it.
I just got a copy of the Bakers Wife…Im hoping its good!!
Thanks for sharing Girl meets God, Im going to add that one to the TBR pile.
Looking forward to your thoughts on Wither, I liked it but had a lot of problems with the Polygamy in it…..
Yeah, I’ll be interested to see how DeStefano portrays polygamy. Can’t wait to read your review of The Baker’s Wife!
Nice variety. Hope you enjoy them!
Thanks, Mary!
I too loved Animal, Vegetable, Miracle but I agreed with most of it so that may have had an influence. I listened to the audio book. Barbara Kingsolver did the narration and it was a pleasure to listen to.
I’ll have to check out the audiobook! I’m also really passionate about local, organic agriculture, so that’s a big reason I love it so much too.
I’m surprised by how intrigued I am at Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. I’ve never heard of this book and I’ve never read any of her stuff but I’ve seen her name everywhere. Hearing you talk about it makes me want to start it right now. I’ll be looking forward to seeing what you have to say about it.
Also, Girl Meets God by Lauren Winner–I had never heard of that one either. Interesting comment you make about the possibility of the 40-day book fast…I wonder if that includes fasting from the Bible as well? I would imagine it could, possibly, being it is a book…but I would think that in a conversion to Christianity, one would reference the Bible? VERY interesting and I may have to seek that one out too. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Definitely see if your library has a copy of Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. And come back and tell me what you think of it if you read it! Kingsolver is a bestselling author (she wrote The Poisonwood Bible) and one of the things I love most about A, V, M is her writing style.
I don’t know if that included the Bible… I’ll have to read it and find out! I’ve heard that Girl Meets God is one of the best conversion memoirs out there and based on what I’ve read by Lauren Winner in the past, I can believe it.
I just added Animal, Vegetable, Miracle to my Goodreads so when I’m in the library browsing I will remember it (I shop the stacks with my Goodreads application up on my phone, otherwise I won’t remember anything at all.)
Thanks!
Also, pertaining to your comment from my blog…I read all of the Nancy Drew books cover-to-cover over and over so many times when I was younger. They were so, so much fun to me.
I highly recommend the Little House books, if for nothing else–just so you can say you have read them. They are so heart-warming, so fun, and such a great glimpse of frontier life thru the eyes of a young child. I am enjoying them SO MUCH MORE as an adult, and I’ve read them a million times. (sidenote: several of them have won Newbery Awards, I think books 4 thru the end of the series-but don’t quote me on exactly which titles).
Me too… and no less so now that I’m an adult! I will definitely reread the little house series sometime… though when I’ll have the time I don’t know!
Smart! I don’t have an iPhone, so I have to go by memory… which doesn’t always work out so well.
My son needs the back pain book. I’m jotting down the title. I loved Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, but it got mixed reviews. I hope you love it!
Really? I didn’t know about the mixed reviews. I’ll have to look a few of them up and see what they had to say. Hope the back book can help your son!
The Bakers Wife sounds intriguing!
I can’t wait to read Wither! I’ve heard such great things about it and I’m really hoping to fall i n love with it!
Me too! It’ll have to be really amazing to live up to all the hype.
Hmm…I think I would enjoy Dark History of the Kings & Queens of England. I’m fascinated by British history. Enjoy your books!

I think you would too! Thanks!
