Comments

  1. I enjoyed Animal, Vegetable, Miracle even if the things Kingsolver and her family did seemed totally out of the realm of possibility for me. Her writing is really beautiful.

  2. The Pursuit of God… that’s deep stuff. :) My dad has all these Tozer books in our library and I haven’t got the courage to read one yet. The theology exposition is pretty good, but it sometimes gets too complicated for me. Gotta try reading a Tozer book one of these days.

The Baker’s Wife is on my TBR list. I had to choose between reviewing it and a nonfiction book. I picked the nonfiction book since I want to balance my fiction-nonfiction reading fare, but The Baker’s Wife sounds like a good mystery read. Looking forward to reading your review of it!

    • Definitely. I had the opportunity to review a new collection of Tozer’s writings, but I passed it up because I knew it would take me FOREVER to get through it! This is a really short book, but I’m still going to take it slow.

Oh, I hate it when I have to choose between a fiction and nonfiction. I actually chose a fiction this time because I’ve been so busy and it will be quicker to read. :)

  3. Great books :)

    Have a great week,

    Hi Kate,

I’m really enjoying your video blogs! It’s nice to see the books as you talk about them.

The Baker’s Wife sounds really good, its on my TBR list. The Pursuit of God is one of my favorite books! I hope you and your church group are blessed by it. :)

  5. Dark History sounds good to me, enjoy your reads.

  6. The Baker’s Wife sounds like a very good mystery. Loved the comment about your murderous ancestors. We had a friend working on our family tree that found a murderous distant relative. Not a good feeling but we can chuckle about it now.

    • I was watching a movie a couple of weeks ago and the character of one of my ancestors was in it. He was having an affair, getting a divorce, and oppressing poor people. I thought, if I were watching this with friends there’s no way I would admit to being related to this guy! But I got a good laugh out of it. :)

  7. I just got a copy of the Bakers Wife…Im hoping its good!!

Thanks for sharing Girl meets God, Im going to add that one to the TBR pile.

Looking forward to your thoughts on Wither, I liked it but had a lot of problems with the Polygamy in it…..

  8. Mary says:

Nice variety. Hope you enjoy them!

  9. Leslie says:

I too loved Animal, Vegetable, Miracle but I agreed with most of it so that may have had an influence. I listened to the audio book. Barbara Kingsolver did the narration and it was a pleasure to listen to.

  10. I’m surprised by how intrigued I am at Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. I’ve never heard of this book and I’ve never read any of her stuff but I’ve seen her name everywhere. Hearing you talk about it makes me want to start it right now. I’ll be looking forward to seeing what you have to say about it.

Also, Girl Meets God by Lauren Winner–I had never heard of that one either. Interesting comment you make about the possibility of the 40-day book fast…I wonder if that includes fasting from the Bible as well? I would imagine it could, possibly, being it is a book…but I would think that in a conversion to Christianity, one would reference the Bible? VERY interesting and I may have to seek that one out too. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

    • Definitely see if your library has a copy of Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. And come back and tell me what you think of it if you read it! Kingsolver is a bestselling author (she wrote The Poisonwood Bible) and one of the things I love most about A, V, M is her writing style.

I don’t know if that included the Bible… I’ll have to read it and find out! I’ve heard that Girl Meets God is one of the best conversion memoirs out there and based on what I’ve read by Lauren Winner in the past, I can believe it.

  11. My son needs the back pain book. I’m jotting down the title. I loved Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, but it got mixed reviews. I hope you love it!

  12. Mystica says:

    The Bakers Wife sounds intriguing!

  13. Shoshanah says:

I can’t wait to read Wither! I’ve heard such great things about it and I’m really hoping to fall i n love with it!

  14. Hmm…I think I would enjoy Dark History of the Kings & Queens of England. I’m fascinated by British history. Enjoy your books!
