ENTPs are the bomb. I’m an INTJ, but I secretly harbor a desire to be an ENTP. Let’s face it, they are the flyest of fly and they have all the fun. In no particular order, here are my top ten favorite ENTP characters in books and film:
1. Shawn Spencer, Psych
I was a committed Psych fan for its entire eight-season run. In addition to being one half of the greatest bromance ever, Shawn is mischievous, hilarious, and hides a whole lot of brainpower behind that seemingly thick skull. He may have a hard time decrypting his emotions (NT problems 101), but he sure knows how to make work seem like play.
2. Cosima Niehaus, Orphan Black
Cosima is by far the coolest clone in Clone Club. She’s a genius stoner STEM girl with dreadlocks, tattoos, and a wicked sense of style. Defying ENTP stereotypes, Cosima’s emotional intelligence matches her intellectual intelligence. She is loyal, caring, and displays remarkable bravery throughout the series.
3. Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter
Dumbledore represents the highest ideals of the ENTP. He is wise, farsighted, and has a sparkling, almost childlike sense of humor. He cares deeply for Harry, but is willing to sacrifice him for the greater good. He also sacrifices himself, prioritizing the greater good over his personal feelings.
4. Richard Castle, Castle
My ideal day definitely involves solving mysteries with Castle. His crazy Ne-generated theories and passion for the fantastical make him a ton of fun to be around. He loves his gadgets, doesn’t take life (or death) too seriously, and is immensely entertaining. He also grows a lot throughout the show, from cavalier playboy to loyal friend and partner.
5. & 6. Fred & George Weasley, Harry Potter
There are so many amazing characters in the Harry Potter series, but Fred and George hold a special place in my heart. Even during the darkest times, Fred and George always find a way to make people laugh. What begins as childish frivolity eventually grows into a way to keep hope alive. I don’t usually cry over characters deaths, but I bawled when Fred died. FRED AND GEORGE FOREVER!

7. Olaf, Frozen
Olaf is the greatest animated character since Dory, and in some ways they’re kind of similar. Olaf is adorably oblivious, fun loving, and loyal to a fault. I mean, “Some people are worth melting for, but just maybe not right this second” has to be the best line ever.
8. Benedick, Much Ado About Nothing
I think it takes the right production to really fall in love with a Shakespeare play. For Much Ado About Nothing, that production was Joss Whedon’s 2013 movie masterpiece. Benedick is kind of an idiot when the play first begins–a clever idiot, but an idiot nonetheless. Gradually, as he falls in love with Beatrice, his priorities change and he grows into a really good guy.
9. James Moriarty, Sherlock
Various incarnations of Moriarty have fit different personality profiles, but Andrew Scott’s portrayal in Sherlock is almost certainly ENTP. All of the other ENTPs on this list are hero types, and considering the panoply of villains on the INTJ and ENTJ lists, it would seem unfair to not include at least one baddie among all these squishy, lovable ENTPs. Scott’s Moriarty is an amazing villain–terrifyingly witty, darkly humorous, and sickeningly charismatic.
10. Flynn Carsen, The Librarian
I never really got into The Librarians television series, but the handful of episodes I did watch made me a bit sad that the rest of the show doesn’t live up to the amazing character of master librarian Flynn Carsen. He reminds me of Castle with his love of magic and mystery, gadgets and gizmos, and, of course, lots of adventure.
