Drawing upon years of experience in shepherding a congregation, Dr. Wendell Hawley offers prayers to help believers bring their joys and struggles, problems and praises before the throne of God. A Pastor Prays for His People contains corporate prayers for a year’s worth of Sundays and Special occasions (including holidays, weddings, and funerals).
Quick Review: A Pastor Prays for His People is filled with poetic, thoughtfully crafted prayers that will help pastors pray effectively for their flock, and laypeople grow in their prayer life.
Long Review:
A Pastor Prays for His People is organized by the twelve months of the year–seventy-three prayers in all. There are prayers for ordinary Sundays, as well as prayers for the following holidays and events: Palm Sunday, Easter, Children’s Day, Mother’s Day, Pentecost, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Ramadan (to intercede for the Muslim world), Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, the ordaining of a new pastor, church business meetings, Missions Sunday, weddings, funerals, and memorial services. Where other texts–such as the Bible, hymns, or poems–are quoted, the font changes to italics. There are footnotes at the bottom of each prayer citing the source of these quotes. At the end of the book there are a couple of pages where readers can script their own prayers. There is also an topical index which pastors and laypeople alike will find helpful.
The prayers in this little book were written for corporate use, but individuals will find them uplifting and inspiring for their own prayer life as well. Each prayer is thoughtfully, skillfully, and poetically crafted to address a wide array of needs and praises. Based on my own experience, I think that readers using this book individually will find little snippets of many prayers that stand out to them that they will then want to extract and re-craft to suit their particular needs.
A Pastor Prays for His People is a small, simple book that many believers, particularly pastors, will want to have in their home library for ready reference.

They will not charge a recurring fee if you cancel within 30 days of beginning the trial offer. It is very easy to cancel; just be sure to remember by writing it down on your calendar or someplace where you’ll see it! You can also download your 2 free books and then cancel immediately afterward, which would ensure that you don’t forget.
Oh, how wonderful! Getting free trials on Audible sounds like a delightful idea. I will certainly look into this! I’ve listened to a few books on audio, but I’d like to get some new ones.
Hi Kate,
I’ve been looking through several of your blogs pages ever since you left me a comment on my blog, “In the Bookcase.” I must state first, your blog design is immediately inspiring for any writer to see… it was love at first sight for me. The header, the quill pen, everything…
Your book reviews are most enjoyable to read, and I have already found some new books I’m at least interested in, possibly to try and hunt them down at my library.
The “book log” page you have is excellent! I will look forward to checking in there to see your list grow throughout the year. I hadn’t heard of “One Thousand Gifts” before, but that is one I’m thinking about reading now. Also, I was wondering about the Nancy Drew audiobook you listened to. Is that available to for download somewhere online? I wouldn’t mind listening to it myself.
Before I go, I wanted to mention that I would just love it if you wanted to link up any of your posts to the “Sharing Our Bookshelves” monthly event on my blog, which I think you already saw. The invitation is open to any of your book reviews, or your latest wrap up post–which looked really good! Feel free to link up multiple posts as well.
Must go now… have an enjoyable Sunday!
~ Tarissa
Greetings Tarissa!
Thank you for your kind compliments about my blog! I will definitely link up some of my posts to your “Sharing Our Bookshelves” feature.
I got the Nancy Drew audiobook (two of them actually) from Audible.com. Normally they charge a monthly membership fee to download audiobooks (which is ridiculously expensive for what you get), but I signed up on a free trial which allowed me 2 downloads at no charge. They have these free trial offers pretty often. The best place to check for them is on the Amazon.com home page. Since audible is owned by Amazon, that’s usually where you can spot audible deals. Also, if you google search “audible free trial” you’ll probably be able to find a website with an audible free trial ad on it. Just be sure to cancel before the month is up or your credit card will be charged!
